Fitzgibbon Hospital Welcomes Board-Certified General Surgeon Dr. Jeremy Stayton

Fitzgibbon Hospital announces the addition of Jeremy D. Stayton, M.D., FACS, a board-certified general surgeon with extensive experience in rural healthcare and Level 1 trauma training. Dr. Stayton will be performing the wide array of procedures typically performed by a general surgeon, including hernia repairs, appendectomies and gall bladder procedures.

Dr. Stayton brings more than seven years of surgical practice to Fitzgibbon Hospital, having most recently served patients at Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton and Lafayette Regional Health Center in Lexington since January 2021. His expertise encompasses a wide range of general surgery services, including laparoscopic and open procedures, as well as upper and lower endoscopies.

Dr. Stayton earned his medical degree from Saint Matthew's University in 2011. He completed his general surgery residency at the University of Illinois, Chicago – Mount Sinai Program, where he trained at a 319-bed, Level 1 Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center serving a diverse urban population. He was selected chief resident during his final year and received the prestigious Thomas Vargish "Resident of the Year" Award in 2016.

Board-certified by the American Board of Surgery since 2018, Dr. Stayton was formally inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) in October 2025. He previously practiced as a partner surgeon at Dickinson Surgery & Endoscopy in Iron Mountain, Michigan, from 2017 to 2020, where he developed a clinical interest in endocrine surgery.

Dr. Stayton holds a Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and studied political and international studies at Tel Aviv University in Israel.

Dr. Stayton will expand the number of procedures that can be provided at Fitzgibbon Hospital with the following:

·         Hernia repair

·         Appendectomy and gall bladder removal

·         Breast surgery

·         Port insertions and removals

·         Mass, lesion and cyst excisions

·         Hemorrhoidectomy

·         Lymph node biopsy
