Community members will have even more reasons to attend this year’s annual Fitzgibbon Hospital Health Fair, which will be held from 7 to 10 a.m. on Friday, April 24, in the hospital’s atrium. The event continues a decades-long tradition of helping individuals “know their numbers” through low-cost health screenings, fulfilling Fitzgibbon Hospital’s mission of “Improving the Health of our Community.”
This year’s event features several exciting new additions designed to address musculoskeletal health, chronic pain, and bone health—topics that affect many individuals as they age or stay active in labor-intensive jobs.
One of the newest opportunities at the Health Fair is the chance to meet Jacob Elfrink, M.D., orthopedic surgeon at Fitzgibbon Orthopedic and Sports Medicine. Dr. Elfrink will be available to talk with individuals suffering from joint pain or mobility issues that make daily activities more difficult. He’ll discuss common causes of joint discomfort and review options that can help restore flexibility and function.
Also joining the Health Fair for the first time is Wallace Ralston, DNP, CRNA, Pain Management Specialist at Fitzgibbon. Ralston will offer insights into the wide range of treatments available for chronic pain management—including medication, physical therapy, and interventional techniques that can improve movement and quality of life.
In addition, Miles Romney, PA, recently launched a new Osteoporosis Clinic inside Marshall Family Practice. He will conduct screenings at the Health Fair to help attendees assess their risk of osteoporotic fractures resulting from low bone density. The quick, painless screening will help identify those who may benefit from follow-up testing or preventive treatment.
Boone Hospital will also provide skin cancer screenings, which are vitally important for the area’s large farming and agricultural population. Long hours of sun exposure can significantly increase the risk of developing skin cancer or other dermatological conditions, and these free screenings offer participants a convenient way to catch potential problems early. Early detection remains one of the best tools for ensuring successful treatment and improved outcomes.
In addition to these new and continuing offerings, the Health Fair provides comprehensive laboratory tests for just $30, including glucose, kidney and liver function, thyroid levels, cholesterol, and more. Optional add-ons include a Vitamin D test for $20 and a PSA test for $10 for men’s health. Free screenings will also be available for blood pressure, body mass index, and respiratory function.
Individuals are encouraged to pre-register online by April 19 at www.fitzgibbon.org/preregister for faster check-in on the day of the event. Participants should fast for 12 hours prior to testing, and a complimentary light breakfast will be available afterward.
