Fitzgibbon Hospital has announced the addition of Scott Anderson, D.O., a board-certified oncologist and hematologist with Missouri Cancer Associates, who is now seeing patients at the Fitzgibbon Community Cancer Center in Marshall.
Dr. Anderson joins the cancer center as longtime physician Dr. Mark Tungesvik retired after 20 years of dedicated service to the Marshall area. During the past three years, Dr. Tungesvik’s son, Dr. Alex Tungesvik, has also provided care at the center and will continue serving patients alongside Dr. Anderson.
Dr. Anderson said he is honored to support patients and families during some of life’s most difficult moments.
“Being able to bring compassion, technology and science to people facing a cancer diagnosis is incredibly meaningful to me,” Anderson said. “I want patients to know that I am approachable — no question is off limits, and no concern is too small. I am here to help guide them and their families through this journey.”
Dr. Anderson completed his medical degree at A.T. Still University in Kirksville, followed by a residency in internal medicine at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville. He then completed a fellowship at University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics.
His clinical interests include lung cancer, gastrointestinal malignancies, and urologic cancers, including kidney, bladder and prostate cancers.
Fitzgibbon officials expressed gratitude for Dr. Tungesvik’s decades of service and confidence in the continued strength of cancer care services with the addition of Dr. Anderson and the ongoing work of Alex Tungesvik.
