Fitzgibbon Auxiliary Volunteers Donate nearly $65,000 this year

April 24, 2024

At the 2024 Fitzgibbon Hospital Auxiliary Volunteers annual meeting, held April 22, the hardworking group presented a check to Angy Littrell, President and CEO of Fitzgibbon Hospital, for $64,663.20. The funds are traditionally used for “wish list” items requested by patient care departments within Fitzgibbon Hospital as well as continuing education opportunities for staff.

Funds are raised through the annual Auxiliary Holiday Bazaar each November as well as at the group’s the annual rummage sale and other vendor events throughout the year.  Those events include vendors that sell scrubs, books, nuts and other goodies. Proceeds from sales in the organization’s gift shop at Fitzgibbon Hospital also go into the annual donation, which has totaled more than $1.1 million since the Auxiliary’s founding in the 1960s by the late Mrs. (Maggie) Charles Buckner.

The full wish-list for 2024 is as follows:

  • Ceiling lift for the Rehabilitation Department that aids in patients receiving aqua therapy as well as those learning to walk again after a traumatic injury
  • Document scanner for the Fitzgibbon Pharmacy
  • Mobile sphygmomanometer, a type of blood pressure cuff, for the nursing department
  • Beds, mattresses, double hampers and a hydration ice cart for The Living Center
  • Jaundice meter for use in the nursery, requested by Marshall Women’s Care
  • Recliners for patients and family for use in Fitzgibbon Hospital’s Women’s Center birthing unit

During the annual meeting, officers for the Auxiliary also were announced for the upcoming year.  Melisa Shannon will continue as president. Jacque Hare will serve as the organization’s vice president. Rachel Hayworth will serve again as recording secretary, and Mendy Fann will serve again as treasurer.  In a change, Fitzgibbon Morgan Lampe is replacing Janet Bryan as the corresponding secretary. Lampe is a Rehabilitation Occupational Therapist at Fitzgibbon Hospital.
