Marshall, Mo. - Fitzgibbon Hospital and Marshall Women’s Care announce that Steve Hong, D.O., has joined the staff as a board-certified OB-GYN physician and surgeon. Dr. Hong will be delivering babies and caring for women of all ages. His practice includes the surgical treatment of many common women’s health conditions.
Dr. Hong completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, HI, in 2005 after graduating with his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2001.
Prior to joining Fitzgibbon Hospital and Marshall Women’s Care, Dr. Hong was the Chair of the OB-GYN department at Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake, WI. He was also part of the OB-GYN residency faculty at Womack Army Medical Center in Ft. Bragg, NC, where he instructed medical residents in various aspects of obstetrics and gynecological care.
In addition to his experience practicing obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Hong has also garnered numerous accolades as an educator of women’s care. In 2014, he received the Womack Family Practice Obstetrics and Gynecology Faculty Teacher Award. In 2013, he received the Obstetrics and Gynecology Faculty of the Year, and in in 2005, he won both Obstetrics Resident of the Year and Pelvic Surgeon of the Year.
He was a David A. Gee Administrative Fellow and was honored by the American Hospital Association/Institute for Diversity in Healthcare Scholarship, one of only seven individuals to be recognized nationally. Dr. Hong also was recognized as an AUPHA & Abbott Fellow for Outstanding Academic and Leadership Achievement in Healthcare Administration, one of only 10 recognized nationally.
He is a decorated U.S. Army Veteran, having received the Meritorious Service Medal and Army Commendation medal for his work in the 86th Combat Support Hospital in Baghdad, Iraq.
