Intensive Care Unit

Our seven-bed Intensive Care Unit is situated in a manner that puts each patient room in close proximity to the nurses’ station, which contains a central monitoring console. Each room has a glass door for ease of observation and is equipped with bedside monitors with NIBP, EKG, pulse-ox and hemodynamic capabilities.

The primary goal for the ICU staff in the upcoming year is to develop a unit-specific, data-driven staffing plan. As with other clinical areas within the hospital, shared governance has been implemented and staff members are encouraged to participate in decision making for the unit. Management on the unit is very involved with staff and encourages input on all levels of care and decision making.

The staff of ICU is a small, close-knit group. Longevity plays a key role in the success of the unit, with staff members who have many years of service in the area anchoring the team. A high level of customer service, a high standard of care, and a shared concern for patients and the community are all traits of the staff on the Intensive Care Unit at Fitzgibbon Hospital.
