Home Health Services "Come Home to Care You Can Count On" The need for home health care has grown for many reasons. Medical science and technology have improved. Many treatments that could once be done only in a hospital can be now be done at home. In addition, home health care is usually less expensive and can often be just as effective as care in a hospital or skilled nursing facility. And just as important, most patients and their families prefer to stay at home rather than be in a hospital or a nursing home. Home health care includes skilled nursing care as well as other skilled care services, such as physical and occupational therapy, speech-language therapy, and medical social services. The Community Home Health staff provides and helps to coordinate the care and/or therapy ordered by the patient’s primary care provider. The staff keeps patients’ physicians up-to-date on each patient’s health condition on an ongoing basis. While providing home health care, the staff educates the patient (and those who assist the patient) on how to continue the care needed, including medication, wound care and therapy. The goal of short-term home health care is to provide treatment for an illness or injury. It also helps the patient to get better, to regain independence, and to become as self-sufficient as possible. Medicare/Medicaid, as well as most commercial insurance carriers, cover these services. Visit www.medicare.gov for Home Health Compare. For more information, contact Fitzgibbon Community Home Health at (660) 831-3293. Fitzgibbon Home Health Home care is available to a number of patients after an acute illness. Nurses, therapists, aides, and social workers are a part of the home care team. Physicians may request an assessment to determine if home care qualifications are met for individual patients. Assistance may be provided in recovery after a hospitalization, medication evaluation and teaching, and skilled procedures needed to be done in the home. Medicare and Medicaid patients are required to be homebound to receive this benefit. Home Care may be covered by many private health insurance plans. Fitzgibbon Home Health covers a 35 mile radius of Marshall. If you think we might be of assistance to you, feel free to call (660) 831-3293. Fitzgibbon Mary Montgomery Hospice Today's hospice provides medical care and emotional support for people in the last months of life's journey. Hospice recognizes that death is the final stage of life, and patients and families want to live out this stage in the comfortable surroundings of home. The Fitzgibbon-Mary Montgomery Hospice is more than a program of Fitzgibbon Hospital. It is an attitude of life and concern founded on one family's experience with the complex needs of the dying. When Mary Montgomery learned she was terminally ill, she chose to die in her home. Her daughters, Rene and Tina, with the help of other family members and friends, made Mary's request a reality. After her death on March 18, 1986, Mary's daughters worked to form a volunteer organization, the Mary Montgomery Hospice, dedicated to providing support to other families faced with terminal illness. Today's Fitzgibbon-Mary Montgomery Hospice lives on as a lasting memorial. Our mission is to provide comprehensive nursing and personal care, social support, counseling and spiritual service to the terminally ill and their families. If you or your family, or someone you know needs hospice services or you would like to volunteer, we encourage you to contact the Hospice Patient Care Coordinator or the Hospice Volunteer Coordinator at (660) 831-3293. Transportation Services Fitzgibbon Hospital partners with the city of Marshall to provide transportation in a specially equipped OATS bus to people who have little or no alternative means of transportation for medical, shopping, or essential business.
