Diabetic Education

The mission of the Diabetic Self Management Program at Fitzgibbon Hospital is to provide quality, comprehensive diabetes self-management education for all diabetics in our community. We believe that education is the key to empowering the person with diabetes to better manage his/her disease and avoid the complications of diabetes to ultimately achieve an optimum health status.

The program at Fitzgibbon Hospital is recognized by the American Diabetes Association as meeting the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education.

Classes for diabetes education will cover the disease process, types of diabetes, complications, nutrition, exercise, medications, stress, healthy habits and blood sugars. Education will also be provided on the use of a glucometer and/or insulin injections if needed.

Fitzgibbon Hospital requires a referral from your primary physician in order to attend classes. Your insurance can be billed directly for these services. Financial assistance is available, if needed.

Classes are offered monthly, either mornings or afternoons. Please contact the Buckner Wellness Center for more information.
