In December of 2008, Fitzgibbon Hospital President & CEO Ron Ott announced the hospital would be entering into a partnership with Missouri Valley College. Through the agreement, the Missouri Valley College School of Nursing would be housed in the lower level of the Buckner Wellness Center on the Fitzgibbon campus. The school was slated to open in the fall of 2009.

On Tuesday, March 24th, 2009, ground was broken for the new Community Cancer Center at Fitzgibbon Hospital. The $4 million facility was officially dedicated on September 22nd, 2009.
